ESSENTIAL TOOLS AND MATERIALS NEEDED FOR BAKING

Below are essential tools and materials needed for baking cake:

1. Mixing bowls: Used to mix your batter, have at least two large bowls, one for wet ingredients and the  other for dry ingredients.

 2. Measuring cups and spoons:  To ensure accurate measurements.

 * Measuring cups : Used to measure ingredients such as flour, cocoa powder, sugar, they are also used for measuring wet ingredients. A standard measuring cup set comes with 1/4,1/3,1/2 and 1 cup measures. Overfill the cup with dry ingredients and level the cup using a knife.

* Measuring spoons : They are used to measure both dry and wet ingredients. They usually include  1 tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon, 1/2 tablespoon, some include 1/4 and 1/8 teaspoon.

3. Electric mixer: For making cake batter, it makes your cake fluffy. It helps to save time and minimize effort. You can get a stand mixer or hand mixer.

4. Baking pan : How successful a cake will be starts from the beginning. This is where you pour your batter. They come in different sizes and shapes. There are baking pans of different  shapes-hearts,stars,squares,shirt,teddybear,rectangle,round,etc There are also number pans. It's important to use the correct pan size and shape stated  in the recipe or  you will need to adjust the baking time. To prevent the cake from sticking to the pans, make sure  to line and prepare them properly.

5. Parchment paper : This is a non sticky paper ideal for lining baking pans and trays. No additional greasing is necessary.

 6. Scissors : Used to cut the parchment paper to the appropriate size of your cake pan.

7. Oven: This is very essential for baking. This is where you place your batter for it to get baked.



 8. Cake tester/Skewer: This helps you to know whether your cake is done/cooked.If you insert it into the cake and it comes out clean, then your cake is ready.

9. Kettle: Used to boil water for your chocolate cake, ganache, etc.

10. Cooling rack : Used to cool cakes after taking them out of the oven. Helps to circulate air around your freshly baked cake, to avoid sogginess. There are so many different types and shapes of cooling rack, so whatever you have or whatever you buy will work for its purpose.

11. Sieve: To sieve dry ingredients such as flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, soda, etc. To remove unwanted materials.

12. Measuring scale : As accuracy is very important in baking, measuring scale is necessary to measure out ingredients. You can get a digital scale or the manual one.

13. Whisk: Used to give volume and aerate foods. A balloon whisk is a handheld tool with metal loops that form into a bulb shape at the end of a long handle. It is used to perform baking tasks  such as whipping, creaming and mixing.

 14. Spatula : Preferably a rubber spatula, used for stirring and folding batters. Also used for scraping foods from jars or bowls.
